Shopping & Beards, Cheapo TFT screens, the Corinthic

Feeling a bit better today - staggered out to Portobello Road and stocked up on fruit, veg, cheap cheese etc., then to the shops for the rest of the groceries.

Weird conversation on the way home - guy who has just decided to grow a beard stopped me to ask how I kept mine trimmed. I rather bemusedly told him about the cheapo beard trimmer I was given for christmas about ten years ago; by sheer chance I noticed the same model on sale in one of the local pound shops a few weeks ago and pointed him in that direction.

One of the things I spotted while I was out is that the local branch of Tiny Computers is advertising a 15" TFT monitor, 1024x768 resoulution, for £99.99 - I was carrying a lot of shopping so I just poked my head round the door and ask if they had more than one, what they told me is that it's a "while stocks last" deal, but all their shops should have them. There's nothing about it on their web site, but if you live near one of their shops it may worth checking out. Don't know what they're like at all, and didn't want to put things down to take a look, so don't blame me if they're rubbish.

I've decided to go with yesterday's picture of the Corinthic as it is - the original is the only picture I can find that shows that much detail of the ship and the original really is a total swine to clean up. It's on this page:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~patricia/corinthi.htm

It's actually bigger than it looks, they're reducing the size to fit the page.

1. Random conversations with strangers are always amusing, even if they are a bit on the odd side.

2. The picture you posted yesterday was quite stunning. I approve.

3. Thank you for point me to a review of National Treasure that was somewhat reasoned out. I think I'll catch a matinee, rather than an evening show.

I wasn't too keen on it at first, but coming back to it after a day it does seem a lot better somehow, and my efforts to re-do it better failed miserably. It's good enough for my purposes anyway, and I really don't have time to mess around.

What's interesting is my husband gets that question too. His beard is on the shorter side, though, and he's sort of...obsessive about it. It gets a trim over about every other day. I like men with beards, but you see people trying to grow one with no clue, end up looking like some sort of mountain malcontent.

I trim mine infrequently, but it happens I did it a couple of weeks ago and it's still reasonably tidy.

I took my beard off when I started to work in the food business. Deciding between just taking it off and wearing a kind of a muzzle because of it I decided it was just not worth the hassle.
But it was kept reasonably short before by application of an el cheapo trimmer about once every fortnight.

The girlfriend suggests the Tiny offer isn't worth it. Most of the times she gets a Tiny computer in for repairs it turns out to be some hardware problem and the monitors are even more susceptible.

I don't want one for myself anyway - just bought a Belinia 17" that comes with a 3-year warranty.

I still use a 14" crt one that got thrown out at work. Need to get a better one in the near future, especially as it doesn't do more that 800x600 at any frequency that doesn't murder my eyes.
