Number Crunching

On rec.arts.sf.fandom a certain poster is inclined to make what I suspect are somewhat exaggerated claims about the amount of emails, spams, etc. he receives, how much time he spends deleting them, etc. etc.

I suspect that he has never analyzed his figures rigorously. But someone else has:

I wonder if we should ask for similar proof to back up future claims...

If that's who I think it is, then I can well believe his claims (unless they've changed a lot since I stopped reading UseNet). Being an active anti-spammer (and not using modern kit with decent antt-spam technology - does he still use a vt220 connected to a vax?) is one way to ensure you get truly insane amounts of spam a day. Add in an unwillingness to bulk delete suspected spam, and I can easily believe he took so much time on email housekeeping.

Yes, we're thinking of the same person - what I've never understood is how so many spammers have his address, I don't make a big point of hiding mine and I doubt I see a hundredth as much.

I think it was because he was quite, er, pro-active and made himself rather unpopular with some of the early spammers - and hence made sure his address would be on every CD they sold.

Oh dear... I have a housekeeper's brain...

Vax =

Surely it should make it easier for him to get rid of the spam?

You'd think so, wouldn't you...
