(no subject)

The keyboard, mouse, and speakers have arrived, and are in amazingly good condition.

The keyboard is clear plastic with white keys, not the clear and black I've been using, which is more in keeping with the computer, the plastic of the mouse and speakers seems virtually unscratched, etc. etc.

I forgot to say that it also turns out that there was nothing wrong with the other keyboard - I noticed it wasn't working just after plugging the USB blutooth pod into it, and somehow missed the obvious conclusion, some sort of clash. It worked fine with the bluetooth plugged into another USB port rather than the keyboard's sockets. I really don't need another Mac keyboard so I'll probably flog it once I'm sure everything is OK.

Now just the other 512mb to come and I will hopefully then have a state of the art computer... for 2005-ish. But certainly good enough for DVDs, web browsing, etc.

Fond memories or a mocking sneer?

Possibly only state of the art for 2003, really.

Right, I was remembering it wrong.

Ah, takes me back. [livejournal.com profile] chorale used to have almost exactly that setup on her desk. I'm glad to see the classic model is still usable.

Slow but still working well for basic stuff like word processing, as far as I can tell. It's never going to be a serious working computer again, but it might end up as my bedroom DVD player / web browser etc., or in some sort of server role since it seems to be pretty stable.

Rare to see such a fundementally happy piece of design.

It's cute but there's some typical Apple silliness; for example, there's a little slack in the swivel of the screen which means it can (and does) tilt slightly off horizontal. To tighten it I'm going to need a substitute for two special wrenches, each with three rods sticking out arranged in a triangle. And I suspect that it will be a bugger to get completely clean, at the moment bits are a little grubby.
