Xmas Gift, Doctor Who

My most interesting Xmas gift so far has been a copy of The Dalek World, a 1965 annual by Terry Nation and others. I suspect that my niece paid considerably less than they're asking for here:

I owned a copy when I was 13 or so, but it was exterminated or was otherwise lost many years ago.

Doctor Who was fun, and was a nice take (I suspect possibly the last one they'll do) on the Doctor/River relationship. No spoilers!

Agreed. Did you spot the line of dialogue that Steven Moffatt took (though tweaked a little) from "The Importance of Being Earnest"?

River echoes Gwendolyn when she says that she keeps a diary because she likes to have something sensational to read. (IIRC, Wilde's version ends "... on train journeys", but that obviously wouldn't have been appropriate.)

My Brother has this plus it's companion, "The Dalek Book" that came out in 1964. It was when I was in Leicester Uni in around 1988 that I wandered into a secondhand bookshop in the Silver Arcade and managed to get him the third component, the "Dalek Pocketbook".

Not so long ago there was a huge legal row from the inheritors of the publishing company that produced these about how the BBC was infringing it's copyright by producing a new dalek book. My Brother had to actually go to court and show that all the information in these books that was being claimed as the publisher's copyright had already been expressed in various Dr. Who episodes. The Beeb won.

I don't think I had either of the other books. Shame, but possibly they're wasted on someone my age...

"The Dalek World" -- happy memories :: I wish you all the best of it.

I'm surprised by how much of it I vaguely remember.
