Picspam - canal and river

I haven't done this for a while, so here is the latest picspam - I've reduced image size because there's nothing especially wonderful.

First something I saw in a car boot sale that might amuse [livejournal.com profile] rozk

Next a big swan family on the canal at Little Venice:

And finally, inspired by a recent post by [livejournal.com profile] selenak, I went to Greenwich on Tuesday, and came back by the river ferry to Westminster - which is only £4.17 at the moment if you have a freedom pass. A bit dreary and choppy, but I enjoyed the ride anyway.

And Big Ben - the building to the right in the second photo is Portcullis House, where the MPs have their offices, "a wretched hive of scum and villainy"

I think there is something wrong with the digital viewfinder of my little camera - a lot of pictures are coming out slightly crooked, I think the little screen in the eyepiece is slightly out of alignment. I shall have to get into the habit of using the back screen instead, or think about changing cameras.

Oh, I didn't know they let people onboard HMS Belfast.

When I was a kid, my parents got thoroughly bored of my repeat visits to HMS Belfast for birthdays. (Almost as frequent as the visits to Bodiam Castle.) I've not been for about thirty years, though, so no idea what it's like now - I do know that the low ceilings and narrow companionways are likely to be more of a challenge for me these days ...

It does look pretty awesome, I must admit.

How long does it take to look around the ship?

Imperial War Museum (which HMS Belfast is technically part of) website says to leave at least 90 minutes - someone on TripAdvisor said at least two-and-a-half hours wasn't enough.

That's somewhere else I've never been, the Imperial War Museum.

Seeing London from the river is really interesting -thanks.

I do love the swan pictures but the canal reminds me of something... I know! The Olympic diving pool!

The green is mostly duckweed so mostly harmless. I gather the Olympic water is not.

Well they keepsaying that the pool turning green isn't harmful...
