Some time soon NS&I are going to be launching Green Saving Bonds. At the moment they're pretty coy about things like the interest and tax status - anyone got any idea as to whether they'll be worthwhile?
I'd wait until they're reviewed by someone like 'Ethical Consumer' magazine. They're very good at separating greenwash from actual green.
I put my savings with Triodos - they came out very well on the investment ethics - and the rate of return on investments is reasonable too. (with the usual proviso that shares can move both ways)
Given how low the current rate is on National Savings, I wouldn't expect much from the green version.
They probably get a lot of hits at the start of the month - I think the number of people with big holdings of premium bonds has risen a lot in the last couple of years since it's a better investment now than most savings accounts.
