There be frogs here!

Here's some pictures of the frogs currently over-running our garden pond. The odd part isn't the frogs - they're just the common English frog, Rana temporaria - it's the fact that this is a teeny pond a bit larger than a bath in the middle of London. I counted 14 frogs at once yesterday, we think there are a lot more. Also loads of frog and toad tadpoles. And a half dozen VERY large goldfish who seem to be quite unphased by all of the tadpoles nicking their food pellets. And I'm not even going to try to list all the invertebrate species, the odd birds that drop in for a meal, the foxes, etc...

This is just the whole pond - small, isn't it! About 5ft x 4ft and 3 feet or so deep, in fact. We have no idea why it suddenly became frog and toad Mecca a few years ago, but it has.

That is a rather lot of tadpoles, isn't it! I love frog pics. Thanks for sharing!

My guess is several hundred tadpoles in there - the surface of the water is roiling with all the little wrigglies.

That's a rather nice little pond - no wonder it is a des res. And until the frog pron I had suspicions you might be photographing just the one frog from many angles, but I take it back. You have a frogopolis.

Gasp! Pornofrography. Really Marcus, posting where children can see. Disgraceful. *g*

As soon as I saw the post, I thought of you.

Gosh, I've only ever seen more frogs in one place before. There was a stream near a dig in Oban, that was just frogspawn from beginning to end. Even large piles of frogspawn left up on teh bank to dry up, because the stream was full of it. Damndest thing.

Wouldn't like to try - I dissected two or three when I was at school, all of them had parasites.

That's why you -cook- them first!
