Upcoming DVDs

Anyone got any spare gift codes for amazon.co.uk? Lot of nice DVDs coming soon and so far Amazon look cheapest, assuming I take the slow free delivery route, but it still comes to a heap of cash I would really prefer to avoid spending right now.

Angel S4 - £55.99, due 1st March
West Wing S3 - £44.99, due 29th March
Buffy S7 - £55.99, due 5th April
There's also an offer on West Wing S1 and S2 for £34.99, which would be very nice if I didn't already have both seasons.

Yes, I know that this is all horribly expensive compared to the USA (and a lot of the rest of the world) but unfortunately it's what things cost here, and having been clobbered for tax plus a handling charge every time I've imported DVDs from abroad I'm not going to go that route again.

WW S3 is showing as £49.99 reduced to £37.48 at the moment on amazon.co.uk

Yes - my bad, I did a cut and paste to avoid retyping "and hash 168 ;" for the pound signs, and forgot to change the price.

&"pound"; should also work without the quotes - £

Hmmmm.... Play.com has Angel and Buffy both listed at £54.99, and West Wing also at £44.99. Delivery from them is, as always, free and designed to reach you on the day of release.

I never go anywhere else for dvds nowadays.

Trouble with them is that they are Jersey-based, and if customs happen to stop the packet and check the contents you can be hit for VAT and the handling charge; it happened to someone I know, added about 16 quid to the price of the stuff he'd bought. I use them for stuff under 18 quid, which is the threshold for the charge. If you look at [livejournal.com profile] timill's earlier comment, I gave the wrong price for West Wing, it's cheaper from Amazon.

Ouch.

Not something I'd ever heard of before, but I can see that most of the stuff I get is at the £20/down to £15 level, thus avoiding any charges. Something to bear in mind for the future I guess.

It isn't just tax on the excess over 18 quid - they charge you VAT on the full price e.g. 3.50 on something costing 20 quid PLUS a post office handling charge, which could easily be more than the VAT.

Make that Double Ouch.
