Zirk

Anyone know of a web site for the old comic character Zirk, from the British comic Warrior? Won the Eagle award at least once?

I wanted to refresh my memory on a couple of things, couldn't find anything in Wikipedia or via google apart from being mentioned in the context of the award. You'd think there'd be a fan site or something.

We did find this

Alternatively you could ask for specific and john could drag what he can remember out of his rusty bear trap of a brain.

I was really looking for more of an overview of the character, the technology, etc., with a vague idea of giving him a "walk"-on role in some sort of fanfic. It just seems odd that there's so little on line.

Have you tried the International Hero site?

I think he first appeared in NME's "The Stars My Degradation" by Curt Vile (Alan Moore). Also, bear in mind he was mainly a supporting character to Laser Eraser & Pressbutton. I think he only had one strip of his own.

Let me see. 4 mini-elephant like legs, no eyes, an anti-grav platform, a fetish for avocado puree, and the catch-phrase "I likes what I likes, and what I likes wriggles", or something like that.

Thrashes, not wriggles, I think, but otherwise that's what I remember.

A most excellent comic character database. Here's a link to Axel Pressbutton. No Zirk though :(

They even have entries for superheroes from a game called Golden Heroes...

Well he rode on some form of antigravity machine and he was heavily into tentacles. When I read your piece I thought you were interested in him for the Eastercon programme item on tentacles. He also appeared in Axel Pressburger if I remember correctly, the comics are in the other room under a pile of other comics so memory is a little vague.

This seems to tie in with what I remember and what other people have said - it really isn't very important, if I use him at all it'll be a very fleeting appearance. Probably chased by an angry mob of vampire slayers or something.

Zirk the Devo was a small, rugby ball-shaped (and sized) quadruped. He had no facial features. Come to think of it, you couldn't tell which end was which. He also had a very small set of wings located midway along his dorsal surface.

Zirk most commonly was seen on a small anti-gravity transport, somewhat similar to the Mekon's chair. It was presumably controlled by his thoughts as it sometimes came to his rescue.

His sexual preferences are legendary. As he said: "I like what I like, and what I like THRASHES!!" He did have thing for long limbs (never mind tentacles), bondage and lubrication. However, the exact details were sually censored. Although women found him disgusting at first, those who suffered his attentions fell in love with him.

It should be noted that Zirk was the last of his race. He had had them assassinated in order that he could reproduce his race in his own image, either by cloning or asexual budding (there weren't that many details). He first appeared in the Axel Pressbutton strip in Warrior, but had a few solo adventures - notably "Zirk - Devo of the Future", as well as "Zirk meets Noctopulis the Night Squid" in one of the A1 anthologies.

Hope this helps.

Excellent - I'm now thinking Zirk / Illyria...
