Who - New companion and Xmas guest star announced

I'm ambivalent about both of these, especially the companion, but it ought to be interesting.

Am currently debating whether to knife myself in the face, or do Russell T. Davies first. What is it with him and Rose's Mum/Martha's Mum/The Runaway Bride anyway? Paging Sigmund Freud.

Do RTD first. If there's anything left by the time the rest of us have finished with him. I managed to watch about ten minutes of The Runaway Bride before changing channel (as opposed to putting my foot through the television) and I suspect that I may have to give this season a miss for the same reason.

I'm stunned. I don't know what to make of this news really. It's a bit left at the traffic lights. I really don't mind Donna being the assistant - I just thought Catherine Tait'd have better things to do. I was hoping (against hope) it'd be Carey Mulligan but never mind, eh :)

I'm just, well, er... stunned.

supplemental...

My wife thinks this is fantastic news! Perhaps that's the point. Perhaps a lot more women will feel the same way and tune in (Do people tune in anymore?).

I must admit, I loved the whole 'Martian Boy' thing =)

Well, so far in my reading the tally is one for, three against and one ambivalent.

I'm with the majority.

I can give you two more women (me and [livejournal.com profile] inamac who hate Catherine Tait (or Tate - who cares) so much they are going to stop watching. And are relieved to do so.

I'm female and feel much the same (see above)

Ah well

Won't be watching that any more. Last year's Christmas special has been the worse episode so far.

Speaking as an American who is unfamiliar with the actress in question, may I ask who Ms. Tate is and why she's getting such a negative reaction?

I know nothing about her outside of Doctor Who, and have nothing against her personally. Her character Donna, on the other hand, spends a lot of time shouting abrasively.

There were extenuating circumstances, such as being kidnapped repeatedly by aliens on her wedding day. I think she might be interesting, especially as someone who started out with an initially poor idea of the Doctor and hopefully won't be in love with him after a couple of episodes. He needs a kick up the arse occasionally.
