Two video recs

Both from Youtube, so definition isn't wonderful...

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] major_clanger a nice look at one of the main sources for George Lucas' inspiration in Star Wars...

Needless to say Lucas ignored the main lesson of this scene, which was that without the lights, aiming devices etc. none of the bombs would have worked, regardless of any mystical bullshit, and that anyone who "trusted the force" would have been dead.

And from [livejournal.com profile] anachrotech a very bizarre CGI music video which I can best describe as "Nazi Pigs in Steampunk Battle" - I suspect that the translation of the song isn't very accurate, so draw your own conclusions. Another Star Wars (or possibly LoTR) riff here.

Well, but unless you accept the premise that in Lucas' universe* mysticism does not automatically equate to bullshit (and that therefore lights and aiming devices are not always necessary) the entire series doesn't make a lot of sense.

*I don't think it does in this one either, but I don't expect anyone to follow me that far...

Oh sure, it's a given for Lucas - but I really think that it's a seriously stupid form of mysticism for a technological world.
