Hello pounding headache....

The Notting Hill Carnival is in full swing and as noisy as ever. I live on the outskirts, and it's got to be past a hundred decibels intermittently, with low-frequency vibrations that set off car alarms and shake the house. The streets here aren't too bad right now, but will be later when people start heading home.

It occurs to me that in four years London will have the Olympics and the Notting Hill Carnival going on pretty close together - I don't think they actually overlap, the games start at the end of July, but I could be wrong on that. It will not be a fun time to actually live in London and have little or no interest in sport or carnivals...

Sympathies: we live opposite the road from the park where the Leeds West Indian Carnival is held; but at the moment it's just a mildly annoying "thumpa thumpa thumpa" and the occasional whiff of barbecue.

The real headache will happen tomorrow when we go visit it.

I wonder if it would be feasible to set up a small relaxacon over the Olympics, well away from London?

Quite often there's an SF con of some sort over the bank holiday weekend - not this year, unfortunately.

Sounds like an excellent time to take holidays, if you can.

I was hoping to, but the convention I wanted to go to is next weekend, and for various reasons I can't make it.

I would invite you to visit for the duration - but I'll probably have the olympics on the TV all the time...

I wouldn't worry too much - I'm probably going to be mega-busy at work over the summer holidays next year, our labs will be being refurbished, so I doubt I'll have time to pay much attention.

And of course the olympics are 2012, not next year... oh well, maybe I'll have figured out something to do by then!
