RIP Oliver Postgate

BBC news just said that Oliver Postgate (The Clangers, Noggin the Nog, etc.) died yesterday aged 83. He'll be missed.

(dons jacket of smug fannish judgement)

IN the Canterbury museum, a large part of it is given over to Smallfilms (run from a barn just outside town); most of the original models are there (as well as the original Basil Brush), and it's well worth a visit for people of a certain age, reminding you of just how much of my mental furniture was rented from Mr Postgate as a child.

On the other hand, my partner once treated Oliver Postgate in hospital, and he was foul to her. But being the man behind Bagpuss gets you a lot of latitude as goes my opinion of someone. So yes, he will be missed.

You look incredibly familiar. Do I know you? You don't know Mike Strefford, do you?

Not as far as I know... I get this sort of thing a lot, and suspect I may be one of the final five models of Cylon...

I'd like the world and I to come to some sort of arrangement. I'll stop threatening to blow up the planet if people stop dying.

I doubt that you're going to win on this one...

Oh, that *is* sad news. I met him very briefly years (decades) ago at a CND rally he addressed in Exeter. His address was brilliant; he seemed charming.
