What the hell is wrong with Yahoo groups?

I've just tried to join my local freecycle group - to do this I first had to join yahoo groups. I've received my user name and password and tried to log in and join. All well and good, except that I can't actually access Messages etc. - I'm still being prompted to log in.

When I try to log in, I'm told I can't, the user name or password or something is wrong, at Yahoo groups and at freecycle. Remember that I'm pasting in the information they sent me about two minutes ago...

When I tried to do a password recovery it told me I couldn't do that on line.

When I tried for a lost user name it asked me for personal details which I haven't yet given them.

So how the hell do I get the damn thing to work?

Is it browser incompatibility or something?

I can't use Firefox on Yahoo at all, so it could indeed be browser incompatibility.

Looks like I can't do it from Internet Explorer either. Or from Safari on the iBook.

The hell with it. I'll have to go back to plan A, which was selling this stuff on ebay.

I've just logged into my Yahoo account using Firefox, so it's not that.

I've used Yahoo groups with Firefox without problems, so it's not as simple as browser incompatibility.

I tried to join a Yahoo group for freecycle and had the same experience, months ago. I tried again for a different reason four or five months ago, and still couldn't manage it. It seemed to me that, if I didn't sign up for everything Yahoo, I can't use the groups.

I had thought it must be me - but maybe not!
