I've had to remove apod2 from my friends page again, because of yet another gigantic wide image which mucks up everything else. I'll put it back in a few hours, when it will be off the current page, but it's a bit of a nuisance.

Is there any way to set up a feed so that the entries are behind a cut?

I don't know about setting up a cut, but apod just gives a thumbnail that you can click through.

I sometimes have a similar problem with the strangemaps feed as well.

Oh - thanks - apod used to have the same problem which is why I switched to apod2

I quite often use adblock to remove those annoying wide images that muck up my friends page.

Trouble is I do want to look at the Apod images - just not full size until I click on them!

I use a LiveJournal addon (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4536) with Firefox because of all the features it gives. One of them is a box you can tick to limit the width of images on your friends page to xxx pixels. Since you're a Mac user that's perhaps no use?

I'm mac and PC; Firefox works on both, but I greatly prefer Opera on the PC and Safari on the Mac. Going back to the original Apod feed which now uses thumbnails is probably the best answer.
