COA Awards

Up late and decided to check Twisting the Hellmough, and found that the results of the Crossing Over Awards are up. It turns out I have a little good news - Grounds For Divorce won Best Highlander Crossover - Buffy / Highlander, it's a prequel to a couple of other stories.

Unfortunately I'm not very impressed by most of the other winners this year; a couple of good ones, but some dreadful turkeys and a lot of mediocrity. I'm appalled at the results of both of the non-Buffy categories - I didn't expect to win, because there were some other excellent nominees, but none of them won either; in fact I think only one of the thirty or so stories I nominated and/or voted for won in its category. I think need to think carefully about whether I accept nominations next time around, I'm not sure I can take this seriously any more.

Commiserations in particular to [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords, [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat and [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs, all of whom deserved to do much better.

Later - OK, blame the late night for me not realising that [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords won the Non-BtVS / Non crossover category - I was so focused on the crossover category, and on my nominees, that I really missed that one. MANY apologies!

Congrats on the award you did win!

Thanks - sorry to sound so grouchy.

Huh. Well, one of mine won (by 2 votes so I'm glad I voted myself) so it's not a total loss. Esp. considering the runner-up had three times the reviews and over 10x the hits O_o

Congrats on your win!

It's one of those markers of time passing after the end of a show - the great fic writers move into new fandoms. Tis sad but true.

I'm not calling myself great - I mean the real superstars out there who are no longer on TTH.

You're probably right - just REALLY not impressed with most of the winners this time.

And feel REALLY stupid since I evidently glazed over what had won the non-BtVS stories once I'd seen what won the non-BtVS crossovers!

Congratulations on yours - well done! Some of the other winners are good - but I totally agree about some of them being dross - it's sad that there must be people who like it...

S2C points out that the 'most nominations' winner (which won other things too) even had typos in the chapter titles...

Yes, that one boggles me too.

I can't disagree with you; I was hard-put to find stories to vote for in some categories, and some of the winners are just pants. I get the impression that there are a few coteries of friends around encouraging each other who really ought to know better. I recognise some of them from other fandoms.
