Possibly the most misguided computer accessory I have ever seen...

Someone must have thought this was a good idea. What they didn't think about is how you use your computer and talk simultaneously...

"Hello computer!"

[identity profile] ffutures.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'd forgotten that one!

... which is why it's being remaindered at Morgan.

A lot of the stuff Morgan used to sell was like that, I did think that to an extent they'd got over it under the new ownership but apparently not.

Like your first comment said, didn't we see prior art for this demonstrated by Scotty in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home?

That was my initial thought. "Spock Saves the Whales" is my favourite of the ST movies...

Ditto - I'd just completely forgotten that little bit! Despite the current FF project having a metal that is basically transparent aluminium...

I more often quote his following line: "Ah, a keyboard, how quaint!" There's so much quotable stuff in that movie...

On the other hand, I often try to use my phone as a mouse so maybe there is some merit in it ... :-)

Doesn't it get covered with crud from your desk?

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
I actually do. I have a remote app for my phone which is useful when watching videos on the TV (which is my secondary monitor) so I can sit back and don't have to walk to the desk to pick the next video/fast forward/skip chapters etc.

Nice idea - Bluetooth? Wonder if I could do something like that with the computer I have hooked up to the TV.

[identity profile] uk-lemming.livejournal.com 2011-10-27 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds very useful, what's the app called?

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2011-10-27 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
Unified Remote. Just follow the link in my comment.
Ah, I just noticed that the style on this page doesn't mark up links at all.

Same way you use a smartphone as a phone and a computer simultaneously - very awkwardly (at least without a Bluetooth headpiece or similar).

[identity profile] ffutures.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely - VERY awkwardly.
