Dr Who Xmas Special

Interesting episode and a lot of fun - one obvious thought...

Has The Doctor changed history, or is this just one of the things that was always that way but nobody ever knew. E.g., would the crew of the bomber have otherwise died, or were they historically drifting in a life raft for several days, or unreported POWs?

Nice to see an episode that didn't ship the Doctor with anyone for a change, and had a more or less unambiguously happy ending.

I did wonder if the ending was quite tragic, my feeling was that with the mother character having sent the doctor back to Amy and Rory, having left their lives, it will ultimately now result in their deaths... Just a feeling.

It didn't feel like that to me, but you never know.

Shame they didn't make more of Bill Bailey, with him being in the trailer I was expecting a bigger part

I would vote for down in the Channel for a few days.

The Lancaster was not an unchanging focus point of time, unlike the failed Mars colony and the Doctor could have the PM cover the plane turning up intact 4 days later.

I really like the Mother character resourceful in her own right.

And completely unflappable in the face of mysterious space-suited figures and timey-wimey stuff generally.

We never really saw the text of the telegram. Maybe they were just missing, and presumed dead, and they always got sucked through the time stream.

(And the Doctor puts in a call to his friend Winston, to make sure no one asks any awkward questions about how the plane got to Dorset.)

Okay, I had another look at the beginning, and the telegram lists him as "LOST OVER THE CHANNEL". Which implies that they didn't recover any wreckage, or bodies.

There is also a bright light appearing in the sky, just before the cut away to the Mother.
