Life Story (Jeff Goldblum etc.)

Back in 1987 the BBC's "Horizon" science program made a two-hour special about the discovery of the double helix called Life Story, with VERY good cast including Jeff Goldblum. It was one of the best science docu-dramas ever made, but for some reason has never been released on video or DVD in the UK; there's an American VHS release, which looks to have been cut a little, but it has never been on sale in Britain.

We've been using our tape of it for science lessons for years, but it's now getting a bit worn, just as I have the technology to transfer it to DVD. So... anyone got a good copy and feel able to transfer it across? Or able to point me at a feed for it?

Can't help, but I did want to say that that movie was shown in my high school biology class and my doctoral program in biology.

I briefly met Crick before he passed away, too, as he was faculty at the Salk where I did research briefly. Nice guy.

We're using it for A-level (pre university) biology classes, where it really does seem to help people get to grips with how the discovery was made and its importance. It's just such a shame that the tape was worn when I made the DVD; the copy has an occasionally fuzzy picture and poorish sound.
