Anyone know when The Sarah-Jane Adventures is scheduled to start? September-ish? All that the official site says is "autumn."

Oh, and I got an email saying that the S1 Eureka DVDs have been shipped. Anyone know when S2 starts? And why are there no Eureka / Who crossovers?

As far as I know they're still not saying when Sarah-Jane is going to start. Which makes me vaguely anxious. Because that pilot episode was infinitely better than Torchwood, and I'd hate for them to sideline Sarah-Jane in favour of Torchwood.

Agree 100% - I've seen a whole season of Torchwood and haven't written anything about it, one episode of SJ gave me a drabble.

Never has a more unpleasant selection of characters been assemebled for a show than they put together for Torchwood. Even if the stories had been any good, I doubt I could have watched it just because of the revulsion I had for most of the incompetant nincompoops who had somehow found jobs with the Torchwood Institute.

And yeah, I never had the remotest inkling of a story idea for Torchwood either. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen any Torchwood fanfic full stop.

Now... if they could write Captain Jack into the Sarah-Jane Adventures...

Someone is writing a Torchwood/Doctor Who/Life on Mars/Buffy crossover, which is fantastic so far. The story starts off in the Torchwood universe, but the only characters used so far are Captain Jack and Gwen's boyfriend Rhys, which gets around the "incompetent nincompoops" problem. Other than that, I haven't seen any decent Torchwood fanfic, either.

The other interesting thing about all fanfic that uses Captain Jack, so far every piece of fic I've seen the fan writer has had a significantly better grasp of the character than anybody writing Torchwood seemed to have.

Of course this said I remain rather disappointed that Captain Jack was so under-used in the Who finale.

I've heard nothing definite, though I'd love to know - the SJ Adventures would really be perfect for Youngest Niece. As for crossovers, I've got a Torchwood/Eureka plotbunny on the boil (mmmm, boiled plotbunnies), but I need to see the rest of S1 Eureka before I can nail it down.

On a related note, am I the only one who finds it really hard to make the Torchwood characters as unpleasent and unsympathetic as they were on TV? I know the book writers couldn't do it, as the characters in the books are both more believable and human that the idiots we saw on telly, but I was wondering if fanfic writers hit the same wall?

I haven't even tried writing the Torchwood characters, I seem to have no sympathy for them at all. If I did it would probably be Tosh I'd write, she seems more human and interesting than the rest.

I believe BBC schedules aren't finalised until about two or three weeks out from broadcast, so don't expect a definite date before then.

No doubt they could give us something a bit more precise than "autumn", but once they start getting more precise they are more likely to annoy people when they choose to use their wiggle room. It's frustrating, but easy to see why they do it.

It won't be until after Wimbledon -- the Beeb need maximum spare time-slots during that to allow for over-running matches, things happening on 2 courts at once, and the traditional Cliff Richard rain-starts-concert.
Cynically, Soren
