My Xmas present

After all my vacillating I decided in the end to buy one of those HP Mini-Note netbooks, with 120gb hard disk and replacement RAM for 2gb. Cost me £217.79 including VAT and delivery from ebuyer.com, ought to be with me some time tomorrow. I'm kicking myself I didn't buy the slightly cheaper one Misco had last week, though that was a one-off. My reasoning on this is that if I decide I don't like it I can probably sell it for pretty near this price on ebay; if I do like it I'll sell the Jornada and some other bits and pieces to pay for it.

I want to keep it as a Linux machine - one of the reasons for wanting it is to learn a little linux and use it to test compatibility etc. - so any suggestions on fine tuning it etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Somebody at work just bought one of those. The build quality looks solid so it's probably a bit heavier than others (he said 1.4kg) and apparently it's got a really good battery life.

I'm seeing reviews of battery life around 2 hours for the model I bought - I think that there's a version with more capacity but heavier and a lot more expensive, that may be what your colleague has.
