Fire update

The fire I mentioned turns out to have been a car in the car park under Dorset House, as I thought. What I didn't know yesterday is that there was a very serious casualty, the woman who was driving the car.

They still don't know the cause, but it's a reminder of just how dangerous petrol can be under the wrong circumstances.

Gosh, that's unfortunate. Of all the ways to die, fire ranks up there in the horrifying stakes.

In view of my fun time with the leaking petrol tank last week I'm maybe more aware than usual of the dangers. A nasty way to go.

It terrifies me how many people don't seem to know how quickly petrol can get out of control. Or the way an ignition can follow the fumes.

There was a while I had to carry a spare can of petrol in the back of my old car (it tended to run out a lot, dodgy fuel gauge), but I had that can wrapped up and secure in the boot as best I could. Even then, did not like driving around with it in there.
