I think I may have foolishly said that I was going to lay off buying DVDs for a while, since I seem to have rather a lot I've never watched.

So of course today's walk took me into various charity shops, and rather a lot of temptation. To wit:

Miyazaki's The Castle of Cagliostro on DVD for £2

The two-disk extended laserdisc of Dances With Wolves for £3

And a boxed set of Xena: Warrior Princess - all of Xena: Warrior Princess, six boxed sets with lots of extras in an outer box... for £19.99 - I think this works out at about 40p per DVD since some of the sets run to ten disks. I have no idea when I will get around to watching this, but I think it was pretty good value for money.

Back to resisting temptation. Until the next time, of course...

Later Xena volume 1 part 1 (the only episodes I had) now listed on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131020899969

Was it Bernard Shaw or Oscar Wilde who gave the famous advice about resisting temptation?

Oscar Wilde, surely? Doesn't sound like Shaw.

I've just found it as

The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it... I can resist everything but temptation.

Oscar Wilde

That the one?

That's what I was thinking of, yes.

I picked up a copy of Lynch's Dune today for 20p from a charity shop. Don't know when I'm going to watch it, I may just skip to the good bits.

I've got it somewhere, but it's a letterboxed "standard" format NTSC DVD so looks crap on my big screen - I really need to get a widescreen PAL copy.

I don't think you can have too much Miyazaki / Studio Ghibli on your shelves. I've got two copies of "Cagliostro" myself...

I don't know this film, but it looks a lot of fun.
