J.K. Rowling is writing scripts for Warner Brothers for a trilogy of Harry Potter spinoff films based on Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them; the first will be set in 1920s USA and released next year:

Shatner. Clangers. If the idea is "they were both 1970s SF TV series", that is an outstanding level of missing the point even by Hollywood standards.

But - Eddie Redmayne has signed on for Fantastic Beasts, that could be a good sign?

I hope it does well, but previous films have drawn on the books - this time we're basically talking about three films based on something the size of a novelette, with no characterisation whatever. I'm just hoping it'll be watchable.

Could be worse - they could be talking about filming Quidditch Through the Ages.
