This is a meme I'm stealing from Roz Kaveney and others, seems like a good idea. I know about some of the people who have friended me, others are strangers or may be reading this on someone else's friends page, without knowing who I am.

First, about me: I'm Marcus Rowland, educational lab technician and writer. I'm 50, live in London. Credits include the Forgotten Futures and Diana: Warrior Princess RPGs, a couple of SF and horror stories anthologised, and some fanfic, mostly BtVS related. My main interests are Victorian & Edwardian SF, SF in general, BtVS and related fiction / TV, etc. Three pet snakes, approx 5000 books and games, and more laserdiscs and DVDs than make much sense complete my household.

Why not tell me something about yourself?

I never played a role playing game until September. Now I do it once a week.

well... some things:

* I failed my first attempt at taking the driver's licence. The second time, I got a route that was in my neighbourhood, and passed.

* I wrote my first "book" at fifteen. It was about a Norwegian girl who went to a boarding school in Scotland. Her cousin was named Henrietta, and nicknamed Harry. NOTE: this was before I'd ever heard of Harry Potter, let alone read the books. I believe I started on it in '97, or so...

Failed my driving test three times before I got it - and the first two were for a moped, I can still only ride a motorbike, can't drive a car.

Wouldn't you like to be a memer, too?

My name is Tara Keezer, and in real life, I'm a graphic designer, editor and all-around dogsbody at work. I've recently turned 39, and I live in Ann Arbor, MI. I've had a few minor writing and photographic credits, but nothing that's likely to turn up in any kind of search. Fanfic-wise, I'm writing a series of Giles-centric stories crossed over with the Anita Blake books, and I've started what looks to be an insanely long alternate history of BtVS season 3. I like to travel, and I like to read. I used to enjoy mocking Windows users when the latest disaster used to happen, but it got to the point where it was like shooting fish in a barrel, so I now keep quiet. I have a cat named Mel, and she yells at me frequently, though I don't know why, and I have two ferrets, Dumas and Royce, who are natural thieves.

Mel's probably telling you she thinks the ferrets are picking on her...

Some people have a conscience and/or religion to make them feel guilty. I have Mel. She's been haranguing me for one thing or another since she was 6 weeks old; the ferrets are just another reason.

In no particular order I'm a computer programmer, musician, roleplayer, filker, fan, active politician and slash writer. The combination of the last two is why I'm not using my real name, but if you haven't figured it out by now (given that we've known each other for years) then I'll have to get unsubtle at Eastercon.

I could guess but you're probably better off telling me, it'd be silly if I started talking to the wrong person...

I was the second-best Othello player in my junior high school.

Do people still play that? I thought the early implementations of Windows had killed it for everyone.

I play it with my kids.

I don't know about Windows killing it. When I was in Jr. High School, Windows meant "things you open to let air in."

There used to be a Reversi / Othello game in Windows 3.1

Trouble was that the programming wasn't at all flexible; it made the same move every time in the same situation, even on the "hardest" setting. Once you realised that it was possible to beat it every time. A lot of people thought that was all there was to the game, and never went up against a human opponent.

Ah, that would do it.

I have a backgammon program on my Palm that I stopped playing because the thing accepts doubles that no human player would ever accept.
