I'm stripping down my spare PC - I was thinking of rebuilding it as a linux box but there is something making it crash and I'm not sure what, and life's too short to waste a lot of time on a 400mhz PC.

I should emphasise that I'm really not sure what's wrong with the PC - could be the motherboard, could be the memory, could be the cables or the processor, I just don't have the time or inclination to waste any more time on it. Whatever, if anyone in the London area wants any of this stuff and can collect it from me at the Tun or something (from my house for the casing, scanner, or monitor) let me know ASAP.

20gb hard disk, a couple of bad sectors (but stable - it's been like that since I got it)

2 x 128mb DIMMs - don't mind posting these Going to [livejournal.com profile] paratti

CD-Rom drive
CD-RW drive - not sure it's working but this may be part of the general problem with the PC

SCSI 2 card - PCI
10/100 Network card - PCI
4-port USB card (USB 1, not 2) - PCI

Also the casing and PSU, motherboard, processor (Celeron) etc., it's HP, think it's a standard ATX motherboard. I'll include the Windows 98 install disk and key if wanted, but it's specific to this motherboard. The casing has 4 5.25" drive bays and one 3.5" floppy.

Also a scanner with SCSI interface, think it's 1200 x 600 resolution.

Also an 800x600 15" SVGA CRT monitor, working well - I'll probably take this to a charity shop if nobody wants it, there's one near me that will take electrical goods. - gone to charity shop.

Anyone interested, please let me know.

Just noticed this for 9 PM tonight

Mark Lawson Talks to Terry Pratchett
9:00pm - 10:00pm
BBC4
VIDEO Plus+: 4970247
ffutures: Flatland map (Flatland)
So far the list is:

  • Albert Square - heretical lunatic and mathematician
  • Professor Quatremass - professional sceptic - suggested by [livejournal.com profile] sharikkamur
  • Ellery Quinn - the great detective
  • Rhombus - an immortal who owes his power to a tiny extension into the third dimension
  • Lois Line - unusually intelligent female reporter for the Logopolis Daily Plane, in search of a story that will make her name. This was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] kip_w's suggestion of Perry Llelogram.

Just need one more, preferably some sort of mathematician with at least 5-6 sides. Any suggestions?

LATER: [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs has suggested Septimus Prime, which I think will do nicely. Also got some nice suggestions which will do for NPCs and/or future adventures. Thanks, everyone!
