Eastercon Talk - Empire of Earth

This is the talk I gave on Saturday, a brief history of the evolution of warfare in early SF. This isn't precisely what I said, since there was a fair amount of improvisation and leaping around shouting "...and bring about world peace!!!" as I went through some of the standard tropes of the genre, including wars and cosmic catastrophes which somehow lead to utopia. The illustrations were intended as a powerpoint presentation, which suffered slightly from the lack of a projector - the cable I had didn't fit any of the sockets on the projector provided.
