So I took a last look at my NTLworld email - three spams trying to sell me ISP services, which I can presumably blame on my lovely ISP - and phoned Virgin and told them to disconnect me, which they say they will do, that my account will be closed, and that there is no termination fee. All of which I've asked for in writing.

Next stop is my bank, I need to tell them that I want to shut down the direct debit that was paying Virgin for the service, then across the park again to PC World to get a network switch (they seem to be cheaper than anyone else around here on that one), then back across to Edgware Road for another patch lead, staples, etc. and some shopping in Church Street and Bell Street markets. Should be a nice walk.

Virgin don't want the cable modem back - it's a very old one, but before I bin it, does anyone have a use for it?

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the cable - bit worried that if I cut through it where it enters the house I will bugger up something on their network. Just a quick cut with a Stanley knife, or should I be looking at more elaborate techniques?

I have a feeling that before long this is going to get a bit tedious, so I don't think I'll post every walk I take. But I did accomplish quite a lot today, so what the hell...

So I spoke too soon - while I now have all of the computers able to access the internet, as soon as I did that they apparently became unable to access the printer.

The situation here is that they should all be able to access the same workgroup, Aeronef. All three can see the two PCs, which have (empty) shared partitions, and the network hard disk.

The router is at IP address 192.168.1.254

The network hard drive is apparently at 192.168.1.200

The iBook is on a wireless connection

This PC is connected to the router via the switch and is at:
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254
DNS Servers: 87.194.255.154, 8.8.8.8
WINS Server:

The other PC is connected directly to the router using
IP Address: 192.168.1.4
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254
DNS Servers: 87.194.255.154, 8.8.8.8
WINS Server:

The printer is connected via the switch and set up to use
IP Address: 192.168.0.227
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Any suggestions?
