This new Kobold Guides Bundle presents Kobold Press essay collections about game design and gameplay. In these nine .PDF ebooks, dozens of experienced designers have contributed more than 200 practical, thought-provoking essays on worldbuilding, magic systems, combat, and crafting compelling stories. Use the advice in these authoritative essays to think about games like the professionals do.
We provide each title complete in .PDF. Like all Bundle of Holding titles, these ebooks have NO DRM (Digital Restrictions Management), and our customers are entitled to move them freely among all their devices. (By publisher request, the DriveThruRPG versions of these files are unobtrusively watermarked.)
The total retail value of the .PDF essay collections in this Kobold Guides Bundle is US$125. Customers who pay just US$19.95 get all nine complete volumes of essays in our Kobold Guide Collection (retail value $125) as DRM-free ebooks, including the Kobold Guides to Board Game Design (retail price $13), Combat (retail $10), Complete Game Design Second Edition (retail $15), Gamemastering (retail $13), Magic (retail $15), Monsters (retail $13), Plots & Campaigns (retail $13), Worldbuilding (retail $15), and Worldbuilding, Vol 2 (retail $15).
Six of these Kobold Guides previously appeared in one or another of five Worldbuilder's Toolkit offers in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021. (Those are Toolkits #1, 4, 5, 7, and 8.) The three titles new to the Bundle of Holding – Board Game Design, Monsters, and Worldbuilding Vol. 2 – have a combined retail value of $41.
While these books are system-free they are aimed at fantasy game designers primarily, with other genres getting little attention. While this isn't actually a genre that interests me much, there turns out to be some fun stuff in them - for example, there's a small rant about teleportation in the Magic book that is worth reading for other genres, and the history of the Giant Space Hamster in Worldbuilding Vol 2 is great fun.
Although this bundle is new and seems to be very cheap for what you get, a lot of it has appeared as parts of previous bundles, and I STRONGLY recommend checking what you already own before committing to buy - for example, someone who bought the previous bundles, isn't interested in board games and only uses the "official" monsters for a system might only want to get the new Worldbuilding book, which would be cheaper on its own.
