Apparently Russell T Davies has been given an OBE and Gerald Scarfe got the CBE in the Queen's birthday honors list. Lots of others, but they were the ones that I particularly noticed.

Annoyingly I forgot that there was going to be a birthday fly past today, so instead of being on the roof with my Nikon I was out shopping in Portobello Road. VERY annoying, because it looked like I would have had a better view than last year. Anyone know if the refurbished Vulcan made it to the party? I didn't see it, or at least didn't realise what it was if I caught a glimpse.

Oh man, I'd love to have seen that. I clambered around inside a Vulcan once in the air museum in Coventry - is it the same one?

We were in Whitstable today and saw some of the flypast going up the Thames. I think we saw a Lancaster, a Spitfire, some biplane or other, a very fast modern fighter and a slower larger jet which may have been the Vulcan but was a bit far away to be sure.

I didn't get photos of all of them but I'll put what I have on my LJ, along with some beach huts.

This is the fully restored flying one

Looks like it wasn't in the flypast, they're still working on full flying certification and they wouldn't take it over London without that.

I'm so glad to hear about the honours - very much deserved. I'm only a middling fan of Scarfe's work but Davies will always have a place on my shelf of honour for his fantastic job of bringing Dr Who back to life!

No, the Vulcan was not in the flypast according to the BBC coverage of the whole event and I am sure Huw Edwards would have commented if it was.

Typhoons, C130, AWACS, Lancaster, Spitfires, Hurricanes, the various types of Tornado, refuelling aircraft, F3 and some training aircraft from Cranwell.

Pity really as I like the whole idea of the Vulcan project showing that just because the aircraft are out of service they are necessarily useless.
