Usually when I open my iBook it automatically detects my home network and connects to it. For the last couple of days it has only done so if I enter the network name (which isn't transmitted) and password manually.

In the past when it has done this, switching off Airport and switching on again has usually fixed the problem. When that didn't work a reboot usually did. But this time nothing I've tried seems to work. Anyone got any bright ideas?

What version of the OS are you on?

Did you just download that latest security patch? I have a similar issue with 10.5 but not with 10.4.11 but haven't added the latest patch.

Yup, the latest patch is causing all sorts of network problems in Tiger from slowing down internet speeds to wiping network settings. I'm not too sure of a solution as yet for your specific problem though.

Thanks - yes, I had to reboot for another reason a couple of days ago, and it downloaded some updates afterwards. I'd forgotten.

If it's giving a lot of people problems they will fix it quickly, I assume. Whistles hopefully...

Have you gone into your network settings, and made sure that "remember any network this computer has joined" is checked in the Advanced Settings?

I can't seem to find that option in the advanced settings.

Got it, I think - I saved the configuration I wanted as a new location and told it to use that as the default, it now seems to be OK.

Maybe it's not there in 10.4. In the 10.5 Network settings select Airport, then the Advanced button, and it's under the Airport tab.

Not there - but I seem to have accidentally fixed it anyway!
