Cheap netbooks

Today's email ad from SVP was interesting, for the first time in a long while - they're selling refurbished 1gb / 16gb Asus eee PC 90s for £129.00 - pretty good if you want something like that. I think it's a one day offer. I'm pretty sure this is an older model - this one has a Celeron processor, I think the new ones use Atom - but definitely worth a look if you want a netbook. Actually quite tempted by this one, except for the bit about spending money - right now I'm trying to avoid that since I'm paying for new glasses this month, and it's a bit bigger than I want to carry routinely.

Prices for the last years netbooks seems to be dropping everywhere, I just saw in my email Expansys's offer for the Acer Aspire One A150-Aw for £149.99. It's the Linux version, Atom 1.6GHz, 1GB memory, 120GB HD, 8.9" screen. I've got one of these Acer's and it is a nice little box. The Linpus OS on it isn't great, though easy to use, but you can drop Ubuntu Netbook Remix easily enough and that's a great improvement.

That's the Eee 900; the one you want is the Eee 901. The difference is that the 901 has an Atom 270 instead of a Celeron, and consequently has about double the battery life!

Good news - I was hoping the price rises were temporary. I actually want something a bit smaller than current netbooks but bigger than a PDA, which is a disappointingly poor area at present, but hopefully that will come sooner or later.
