So much for BluRay security then...

As I understand it, someone has also cracked BluRay to the extent of disks being copiable onto BluRay media, but you need a modified drive.

Can't say I'm very surprised.

Me, I''m sticking to ordinary DVD, at least until I've worked my way down the pile of disks I haven't yet watched. And until I'm sure that bloody Sony won't keep changing things.

I heard a rumour a couple of weeks ago that the Sony blu-ray security cypher had been cracked and posted online. I guess this product being available confirms it.

No doubt Sony will now change the cypher, which will result in all blu-ray players becoming obsolete until or unless their firmware can be patched by the user.

This software is just using AnyDVD HD to do the ripping (and a trial version at that), the Odin program just handles the transcoding to other formats. I think the AnyDVD BluRay crack was a few months back, but that was just of one of the low-level codes which could theoretically be deprecated by Sony in the future. The recent crack was of the encryption they use to create the actual codes used in the various BluRay hardware products, and hence could cover all future BluRay products too. However, it's only really practical to make use of it by using custom hardware. Not so much an end-user tool, more a Chinese factory turning out knock-offs tool. Personally, I think BluRay will go the way of the Super Audio CD within a few years.
