Wikipedia and RPGs

Apparently there's a big push on Wikipedia to get rid of "less important" articles on RPGs, their authors, etc., which may lead to a lot of deletions at the end of this week.

It probably isn't a good idea to join the debate on your own entries, but it may be a good time for everyone interested in RPGs to take a look at what Wikipedia offers on the hobby as a whole, and possibly add more material which will stave off deletion. I think it's in everyone's interest to keep Wikipedia's knowledge of the hobby as comprehensive as possible.

Having been down this road before, I'd suggest that getting involved in this kind of crap on Wikipedia is an enormous waste of time. The nerds that made the entries will try to protect them so that they can keep their Wikipoints, and the nerds think they need to police the internet will try to delete them. It is best to let them occupy each other's time.

I'm not seeing any recent deletions on List of role-playing games by genre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_role-playing_games_by_genre). I might throw a bullet into a Wikipedia brushfire war, if I only I could tell where the fighting is.

This particular push looks like the work of one editor working their way through List of role-playing game designers and, to be fair, trying to push up the criteria for notability by several notches rather than trying to get rid of all (or even most) linked articles - but I suspect without any real knowledge of the field. The articles concerned are also mostly listed on the proposed for deletion lists for 10 and 11 March - a few of the proposed deletions have been objected to and now appear on the main articles for deletion list, where debates can take place.
