ffutures: illos from the novel by George Griffith (Angel of the Revolution)

As a break from writing I've just gone through my Friends list, deleted a couple, and added fifteen or twenty people who have friended me and seem to be reasonably interesting on a VERY fast scan of their recent entries. Got through about half of them before apathy set in, I'll try to take a proper look at the rest sooner or later.

Note: If your journal uses tiny pastel letters on a pastel background, or tiny white letters on a black background, I probably didn't friend you irrespective of other merits because I couldn't be arsed to strain my eyes reading your journal. Sorry about that.

Why do people do that? At least it displays in my style on my friends page! Another reason to disable HTML in emails too. Unfortunately there is no easy way round people who refuse to spellcheck, punctuate, use grammar or consistent capitalisation.

I believe that the onus is on the person with the message to put it in an easy to understand format - if they won't make the effort to make it readable, I don't see why I should try to decipher their code. I would make an exception for dyslexics, except that I don't need to since all the dyslexics I know write perfectly clearly.

Ooh, I'm ranty tonight. Sorry!

The color scheme issue is why I've set my preferences to have entry links (comments or cut tags) on my friend pages use "?style=mine", so mine eyes bleed not.

I think mine works that way too, but to look at people I haven't friended I had to look at the pages in their native format. Argh, my eyes...

Hmm, that's why I want to be able to over-ride their settings globally (and not globlaly, as I just failed to notice before I posted!) Though no doubt some people wpuld be horribly offended that I don't want to see their carefully constructed purple-on-black scheme, or red on yellow in one particularly vile case I encountered. It's the effort people put into making it unreadable that amazes me most. I suppose they desparately want to be different and individual but lack any meaningful way of achieving that status. Sorry, I'm ranting again aren't I?

You can always manually add "?style=mine" to the URL (or "&style=mine" in those cases where there is already a parameter list). I do wish I could make it a global setting (as [livejournal.com profile] original_aj does), but at least that's an easy enough fix.

(I even have that string as a shortcut on my Palm, so that I can more easily add it to LiveJournal URLs.)

I hadn't thought of doing it that way. Thanks!

That's a very useful feature. I was very glad when I found it! Now if there was some way to make it a globla setting while you're logged in....

Well, it's a real honor. Before crediting myself with too much merit, I'll retain humility by assuming that, with my pre-alphabetic username, I just got you at the beginning of your marathon while you were still high on the concept.

In any case, I'm a big fan of your work, having used it in my Castle Falk campaign, and I'm anxiously awaiting the newest edition. If I can get my courage screwed to the sticking place, I'm hoping to show you my Victoriana Tony Stark fanfic, The Iron Gentleman.

Cheers,
JT

Don't think I got that far yet. Maybe next time...

I personally prefer white on black, despite the bad memories of smallish letters swimming on the TV screen as my ZX Spectrum warmed up. Pastel on pastel is a fashion crime, though.

Interestingly, despite my bad habit of setting up editors to default to really tiny fonts, my view of your journal is about as small as I can cope with! It's just large enough that I don't have to squint, probably because I have a high screen resolution on a small acreage (or a laptop, as I prefer to call it) and haven't bothered adjusting my defaults.

Actually this is entirely a default livejournal style. Tried messing around with things, always ended up going back to basics.
