I got a couple of rather negative reviews for my last drabble at the Pit of Voles (AKA Fanfiction.net):

I think you are suffering from a case of mistaken identity. Scott's blasts produce zero heat. They are purely concussive, ei, they push either u, or the push a neat little whole through you. ALex, though, Scott's brother also known as havok, produces cosmic radiation, which emits through his hands. That might burn Glory quite effectively...

why do people force me to sign up just so i can tell them they screwed up?

and
Aside from J's comments, I'd like to add that in order to vaporize Glory, you'd need about as much heat/damage dealt as two FAEs('least according to the RPG). And there is no way in HELL that Dawn, who just activated her Mutant Power, would A) be able to use it so easily, B) be able to produce THAT much energy. Hell, I doubt Cyclops or Havok could. This just boils down to X-Men Fanwankery. Bad form, that.

Okay, the first is possibly a valid point, apart from the crap spelling, the second is just fan-wank. So I've posted another chapter just for ff.net

100-word Buffy / X-Men crossover Drabble, a response to certain reviews of the previous chapter. Characters are the property of their respective creators and are used without any intention of infringing copyright. This story may not be distributed on a profit-making basis.

Genetic Anomoly

By Marcus L. Rowland

"That was amazing," said Scott Summers, staring at Glory's smouldering corpse "I couldn't have done it."

"Yeah, well I only got some of your genes," said Dawn, "obviously my mutation's gonna be different."

"I suppose so."

"Think about it - no two mutants have identical powers, why would anyone except an obsessive fanboy think otherwise? I'm not a Buffy clone, so why should I be a Scott clone."

"Nobody's arguing," said Buffy. "By the way, what happened to those fanboys?"

"Oh, Glory sucked their brains while they were saying I couldn't kill her. Some garbage about role-playing games."

"No loss."

Am I being too harsh?

Yes, you're being too harsh - but it's funny ::sniggers::

It's like those reviewers who've been reading your fics for 12 months and yet continually put up a complaint about your characterisation of their fave.

Don't they get it?

The second reviewer tends to post crap like this a LOT. I decided it was time to obliterate him...

It'll probably go right over their heads...

Possibly over-egging the pudding a bit much. I would have done it like this;

"That was amazing," said Scott Summers, staring at Glory's smouldering corpse."I couldn't have done it."

"Yeah, well I only got some of your genes," said Dawn, "obviously my mutation's gonna be different. I mean think about it - no two mutants have identical powers, it's simple genetics."

Buffy raised an eyebrow. "It's simple genetics? How do you know this stuff?"

"I... read Xavier's Genetics of a New Species"

Buffy laughed. "Nerd."

Dawn blushed. "Hey, these things are important!"

"Nerrrd."

Dawn looked to Scott for support. He shook his head, sadly. "No, she's right. Only nerds care about that stuff. Nerds and fanboys."

I like - but I think I'll leave the version on ff.net as it is, you really can't be too subtle with those bozos.

1) Replying to bad reviews is almost always a very bad idea.
2) Replying to trolls just rewards them.

Having said that, I think it was pretty funny :-)

The odd thing here is that the reply was OK while the original drabble really was´nt up to your usual standards.

Yeah, there's NEVER been an X men story about a young mutant whose powers are incredible yet dangerously out of control.

I envy you your ability to slap back. This kind of feedback always annoys the crap out of me, but I write epics, so I don't have the freedom to slap back. Go you!

Where's your proof, fanboy? Where's the official Marvel approved bumper book of how marvel mutations work, always has worked, and has never been contradicted in canon works?

Anybody remember the ecchs-men from not brand ecch? Their cyclops was constantly setting light to things, while the other guys told him "Scott, it's a force beam!" "Then how come I can bounce it off mirrors? Not even Chris Claremont keeps it straight!"

The original reviewer has placed a second wingeing review which I shall ignore. I feel rather pleased that I managed to annoy him...
