Gmail changes - good news for Opera fans.
Mar. 4th, 2005 11:15 amHaven't seen this mentioned anywhere, apologies if it's old news.
At some point in the last couple of weeks Google seem to have taken out whatever bit of code it is that makes Gmail need Activex to work on some browsers. Opera, for example, now works fine. This means that I now have no need to use Internet Exploder at all, except for occasional browser compatibility checks.
For some reason I am rather happy about this...
Oh, I still have a ginormous number of invites if anyone wants one. Email to forgottenfutures at gmail dot com if you do.
Later: It turns out that you lose a little functionality, such as auto-completion of e-mail addresses. Not a huge problem.

Date: 2005-03-04 03:42 am (UTC)If I never had to use Internet Explorer again, I would be the happiest person in the world. I usually surf with Netscape 7.2, but whenever I have no choice and am forced to use IE, I always end up with a bunch of ad-wares and crap on my computer, that or everything just drags around for the next half hour.
And isn't Gmail the most awesome of the awesome? I use Netscape to handle my mail, and Gmail lets me do the whole popmail deal, and it's been working out *superbly*

Date: 2005-03-04 06:14 am (UTC)However, I've tried Opera multiple times since their barely-alpha-quality beta test, and I have never seen anything they did that Mozilla didn't do better. Is that your main browser? What's your attraction?
