Couple of slightly spoiler-ish questions prompted by watching the re-run of last night's Dr. Who

Anyone think that the soldiers shown in the "next week" bit are UNIT? I can't quite remember the uniform they wore, but didn't they have blue or brown berets?

Anyone else wondering if the guys with light coming out of their head are the Gelf again?

The way the Doctor seemed to be giving them orders certainly suggested to me that they were UNIT.

But also, I'm seriously going to have to stop watching these teaser trailers, because they seem to give far too much away.

I'm sure there have been at least three different UNIT uniforms - sort of a desert colour during Jon Pertwee's first season, khaki for the rest of the seventies and camo gear with Sylvester McCoy. I can't specifically recall the berets but my impression (which may be wrong) is they went with the rest of the uniform in the seventies and were blue in the late eighties.

I understand that Mickey is directed to UNIT's website by the Doctor, so I would strongly assume them to be UNIT.

More interestingly, did anyone catch the TARDIS having the words Big Bad Wolf being spray painted on it? And didn't the maid this week mention Rose seeing the big bad wolf? I took that to refer to the Doctor to start with...

"Bad Wolf" is (seems to be) a reference to someone/something that was involved in various goings on in the Time War that destroyed Gallifrey. To what extent this will tie-in with the existing 8th Doctor continuity from the novels, we will have to wait and see.

Given the respect being shown to the classic series, I would be very surprised if they had the Doctor working with the military and it not be UNIT. And about time too! The UNIT era is one of my favourite times in the show.

I distinctly remember Lethbridge-Stewart's merry men wearing normal No2 dress or combat kit, in each case with a sand beret a la UK Special Forces.

Just a guess, but I'm thinking they're using the relationship with the military that was established in "Scream of the Shalka"...

Oh, and the guy who was in the trailer opening his head? My director in Annie. My son is very impressed.

Gelf? I hope so... and I hope the crashing ship is another race come to kick their asses.

What do you think of the implied nods to time war back story?

Trouble is I wasn't following the books or the last series or so on TV (when I thought they'd really lost the plot) so I don't know how the time war stuff connects to anything.

Well, I am fairly ignorant of such things myself, except as hinted at in last months Dr Who mag (yes, I know, I know, only ever bought two isues, in my defence).

From what I can pick up, the Gallifreyans had futzed with time so much, it was a choice between Gallifrey and the rest of space time, and the Doctor gets to choose.

Big guilt trip for the Doctor, major reprecussions throughout spacetime... and no more up their own backside Gallifrey politics stories.

But.... last timelord, what about The Master?

Also other "renegade timelords" -- perhaps not Omega, but the Rani, Chronotis, Romana ?
Also, is someone (in authority) going to suggest that Supreme-Canny-B*st*rd Rassilon doesn't have a fail-safe in case someone tried to futz up Gallifrey ? [After all, the Time Lords did appear to "sanction" the Doctor blowing up Skaro with the Hand of Omega, which to me implies that they recognise the tactic, and therefore, presumably, somewhere have a counter-tactic to it]

You see, this kind of thing is why getting rid of Gallifrey is a really good idea.

Rani? Dead.
Chronotis (who?)? Dead
Romana? Dead
Rassilon? If he's not the Doctor (and my instinctive response is "of course he bloody well is), dead.

Deader than dead. Dead as Billie's marriage. Dead as ITV's Saturday schedule.

Blowing up Skaro? Maybe that never happened now.
