I can see your point, and yes, the Key would understand this. But all it has to go on in terms of understanding how to interact with humans is Dawn's knowledge. Dawn at 18 or 19 could very well shy away from telling people she barely knows that they won't exist anymore if they choose option 3, especially if part of her is convinced that they might exist the way she remembers.
