Bold the ones you have and use at least once a year, italicize the ones you have and don't use, strike through the ones you have had but got rid of. There are additions.

I wonder how many pasta machines, breadmakers, juicers, blenders, deep fat fryers, egg boilers, melon ballers, sandwich makers, pastry brushes, cheese boards, cheese knives, crepe makers, electric woks, miniature salad spinners, griddle pans, jam funnels, pie funnels, meat thermometers, filleting knives, egg poachers, cake stands, garlic crushers, martini glasses, tea strainers, bamboo steamers, pizza stones, coffee grinders, filter coffee machines, expresso machines, milk frothers, piping bags, banana stands, fluted pastry wheels, tagine dishes, conical strainers, rice cookers, steam cookers, pressure cookers, slow cookers, spaetzle makers, cookie presses, gravy strainers, double boilers (bains marie), sukiyaki stoves, ice cream makers, popcorn machines, fondue sets, healthy-grills, home smokers, tempura sets, tortilla presses, electric whisks, cherry stoners, sugar thermometers, food processors, stand mixers, mincers, bacon presses, bacon slicers, mouli mills, cake testers, pestle-and-mortars, gratin dishes, apple corers, mango stoners and sets of kebab skewers languish dustily at the back of the nation's cupboards.

Added coffee machines (why have the grinder but no coffee machine?) and popcorn maker. The things I have but don't use are either presents it would be impolite to ditch, or things that I haven't got round to chucking out yet - I know they're in the cupboard by the freezer, but I can't actually get the door open more than 6" without moving the freezer so they'll have to wait.

Later - add tea bag squeezer - never used the thing in my life, but it's an attractive little thing in the shape of a metal bird and lives on the windowsill.

I... don't think I have any of those.

Not even a tea strainer?

From: [identity profile] nelc.livejournal.com
No, never got around to getting one. I either use bags or just let the leaves settle to the bottom of the cup.

Well, to be honest I haven't got one either - I don't drink much tea, when I do it's bags. Reminds me to add Tea Bag Squeezer to the list - I have one as an ornament, never used the thing in my life.

So it's only the garlic crusher, we use lazy garlic, and the tortilla press, although I've got some flour, that I haven't used in the last year. I love my mouli grater.

Garlic crushers are evil. So sayeth Saint Alton Brown.

1 second to crush ineffectively, 30 minutes to clean. Genius.

I just use powdered garlic. Yes, I know it's heresy...

It's only heresy if God speaks to you through the garlic.

... and I just know, somewhere, somehow, there will be somebody who speaks to God through garlic.

I think that the only thing on that list that I've got (and use) is the filter coffee machine.

It's gradually accumulated over the 17 years I've lived here. Of the things I actually use, I sometimes make my own bread because anything fancy has become very expensive in the local supermarket, grind my own coffee because I pick up packs of coffee beans very cheaply in Portobello Market from time to time, try to make my own frozen yoghurt occasionally because it's low fat and horribly expensive in the shops, and prefer the hot air method of cooking popcorn, again because it's low fat.

Half of those things I don't even know what they are!

Same here, for a lot of the stuff I don't own. I know all too well what things like sandwich makers are like (greasy unhygenic dangerously hot pieces of crap), ditto low fat grills (also low flavour, one of my less inspired xmas presents), and so forth.

The list of things I go 'wha?' at:

egg boilers (A pan of water isn't good enough?), electric woks, jam funnels, pie funnels, pizza stones, ("Eh! My pizza's got real stones!" "Yeah? So's your mamma!")milk frothers, banana stands, tagine dishes, conical strainers, spaetzle makers, cookie presses, gravy strainers, sukiyaki stoves, home smokers, (Well, it's the only place lots of people are allowed to smoke nowadays) tempura sets, tortilla presses, cherry stoners, sugar thermometers, bacon presses, mouli mills, cake testers, mango stoners (why do mangos need their own sort? No! Don't tell me!)
