Adobe are giving away Photoshop and CS2 free of charge - you have to register, but that's it. Right now the site is either snowed under or down, so it may be best to wait a day or two. Full details are here:

http://gizmodo.com/5973730/grab-photoshop-and-cs2-for-absolutely-free-right-here

The Mac version, incidentally, is for PowerPC chipsets, not Intel.

Update sorry, someone messed up at Adobe, this turns out to be untrue, see:
http://www.diyphotography.net/download-adobe-cs2-for-free
for the true story

And another update It's back on line, nobody seems to know what's going on, but I'm just installing Acrobat 8 for mac and it seems to be OK - I'm a legit user of the PC version so I won't feel guilty about this if it turns out to be another error. See

That's an extraordinarily good offer. I wonder why they're doing that.

Turns out they aren't - see the other comment.

Ah, somebody at adobe gaffed bigtime. I wonder what they'll do about the many thousands of people who got in and downloaded before they noticed?

I think that they will lack a valid serial number, so it isn't a huge problem for Adoobe - the idea was apparently to provide a version that didn't need on-line activation, rather than to remove security completely.

Though I suspect it wouldn't be impossible to get hold of serial numbers from pirate sources etc.

It was just some confusion. It wasn't a free offer at all:

Irritatingly, I'm one of the people who the original plan was aimed at -- I still use Adobe CS2. (though admittedly, not on my primary desktop computer where I have the still out of date but more recent CS5). I want to have an activation free copy and serials tucked away but I'm guess I'm going to have to wait for the fuss to die down.

Apparently it is still happening after all - see

Yup, got them now. I use CS5 these days, but am still dithering about what to do next -- I will not be able to upgrade from 5 to 7, cannot really justify an upgrade to 6 at the moment, am outraged that Adobe Cloud costs $50 per month in the US (which I might be able to stretch to) or £50 a month in the UK (which I truly can't), (though as an existing customer I get a first year discount) and really am wondering about just saying that I'm going to stop using their tools when CS5 runs out.
