I'm going to be eligible for various things that need photo ID in a few weeks, so decided to take a self-portrait with my D50. It's just taken me twenty minutes of fiddling around with my camera and remote to fail to take it... five to find the instruction manual... and 30 seconds to take the picture once I figured out how it's supposed to work. Which is neither simple or obvious, and requires you to be able to look at the top panel of the camera, a bit difficult when it's on a tripod at eye level.

Thank you, Nikon.

To celebrate I've decided to create an updated user icon. I look like Rasputin, but never mind... Not sure if I will make it my default yet, I think I prefer the older one.

I did a self-portrait for a passport renewal a few years back. They bounced my first attempt as the background colour was wrong but thirty seconds in Photo Paint fixed that, levelling the bedsheet backdrop I had used to 18% grey (214R 214G 214B) like a fifty-quid pro backdrop would be.

The other trick I did was to temporarily take the lenses out of my glasses to get rid of the annoying reflections.

This is just for an Over Sixties Oyster card and possibly an Over Sixties Railcard (think buying one makes sense, I do use trains 4-5 times a year, but I want to do the sums a bit more carefully), they don't seem to want it to passport standards. At least I hope not. It turns out I can't apply quite yet anyway.
