Sad PS on Robin Sachs

I think I mentioned that Robin Sachs (Ethan Rayne in Buffy, and a lot of other roles) died last month, aged 61. What I didn't mention, because I didn't know, is that my parents and his were friends; they lived a few hundred yards from here, and when I was two or three we apparently played together quite often, according to my sister. And I really don't remember it at all, which is a shame.

It is odd, how we realise our parents know someone but have never thought that we would be interested, or just assumed that we knew.

I have a vague notion that 2C's mother was quite friendly with the mother of one of Duran Duran - and also with the mother of Brian Johnson of AC/DC - in fact I have an even vaguer feeling that Brian Johnson turned out to be a very distant relative.

Well, it's my sister that remembers it, she's a couple of years older than me and much better at remembering names etc. anyway.

How interesting to discover that after so many years. (And too bad to find out when you couldn't make contact if you decided you wanted to). I was sorry to read of his death.

It's one of those things. I was at school with three people who are now moderately famous, but do I know them these days - no, because I disliked one of them intensely and never had anything much to do with the other two.

My brother was at the same school as Mark Gatiss, but as Gatiss was several years below, he had nothing to do with him.

Exactly - there's a VERY big gap between different years in the same school.

In the booklet that accompanies the CDs of the complete Tom Lehrer, it is mentioned that he went to the same summer camp as Stephen Sondheim, but Sondheim was two years younger, so those two great songwriters never had anything to do with each other.
