I've got a little Android box for watching iPlayer etc. on TV. It works fine on my small TV, but I'd decided it would be more useful connected to the big TV in my lounge. The snag is that its only output is HDMI, for picture and sound; what I really need is HDMI and a separate analogue sound output that I can connect to my home cinema amp. Are there any inexpensive adapters that can split off the audio signal but not mess with the picture? I can't seem to find anything like this on ebay without spending more than the iPlayer box cost.

The other possibility, of course, is to use the TV sound, but it's nowhere near as good as the amp can provide.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Something like a HDMI to HDMI + Audio Extractor Converter?

Does the TV not have an audio-out connection somewhere on the back to feed a home cinema amp or surround-sound system?

Does your TV have a digital audio out/pass-through? I use that for my Amp to get around the HDMI problems.

Good question - I think so, but they aren't very accessible and I think they're output from the TV tuner only. However, I might be able to get the sound from the SCART port, certainly worth trying.

Which falls into the "too expensive to be worthwhile" area - might just as well buy a blu-ray player with web access built in, won't cost that much more.

The sockets exist but there's no output without turning up the volume on the TV, and if I do that I might as well use the TV's sound. Which isn't really the end of the world so I'll go with that.

Nope - it's a pretty early 40" set, it has analogue outputs but they only work if the TV's volume is turned up, which is what I wanted to avoid.
