All the times I moaned about fractions in HTML, why did nobody ever tell me the bleeding obvious, that Unicode has numerical entities for a lot of them??

http://symbolcodes.tlt.psu.edu/bylanguage/mathchart.html#fractions

Now I need to try to remember all the articles I've edited which use fractions and sort this out. Or possibly not bother...

Whatever, it can wait - I have to go to the post office and try to find out what's happened to the 1912 volume of the London magazine I was expecting from Canada, with As Easy As A.B.C. - Still no sign after 7 weeks. Wish me luck...

I've had very variable success with Canada post. Some things appear in a week, but I've had other stuff that just takes *months* to get here (or vice versa, there). They are one of the less reliable postal services in the western world. So yeah, good luck.

7 weeks isn't impossible that it might still be on its way though. So hopefully they've not lost it.

I've only had problems once in trans-Atlantic mail*. That was a parcel to Marcus, oddly, and according to the lady at Canada Post I filed my claim they were receiving lots of claims for missing parcels that had all been loaded into a particular container…

But on the weekend I ordered two books from the Book Repository via Amazon, and they arrived today having been sent via Royal Mail and Canada Post. Two business days to get a delivery overseas is pretty damned good, I think!

*Coming from the US, lots of stories. Including the odd factoid that, for books printed in Canada, it is apparently cheaper to ship them to England and reship them to Canada than it is to ship them to the US and reship them here. Which says more about the two-tier postal (and courier) service they have there…

This was surface mail, which may mean they're still aboard a ship somewhere.

The latest change to the Royal Mail pricing structure has made it cheaper if you're posting something within the UK that is heavy that is more than 8cm in depth, to mail it to a friend in Germany and have them remail it back to the UK, than it is to send it directly.

I wonder sometimes at the people who make up these rules.

That is pretty amazing though, 2 days for international delivery.
