I can't seem to stay logged in at tthfanfic.org, which uses cookies timed so that you need to log in every two weeks. Instead they appear to be set to expire at the end of sessions. I presume this has something to do with the new PC, Firefox, etc. but everything else is OK so I'm a bit baffled. Any suggestions.

Before anyone asks, I've tried deleting cookies, logging in and out, changing password, etc. but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Have you looked at the preferences/settings for Firefox? I seem to recall that there's an option or two for accepting cookies and auto-expiring them.

I couldn't find anything = it's set to keep them until they expire as far as I can tell.

In the new version of firefox, many of the best settings are no longer accessible from the menu. Instead you have to know that they ought to exist and then manually edit them the dangerous way in the settings file (although you do bring that up like source text from inside firefox). I'm not even going to attempt to tell you how to do all that but suggest instead that you research it for yourself on the internet from people who are less likely to get it wrong.

It took me a while but I've found the notes I made last time:

To change settings which are no longer on the user interface(!)

Type about:config in the URL bar
- get big page of stuff by Preference Name, Status, Type and Value
- scroll down to ...

... and then the next bit depends on what you're looking for.

OK, I'll give it a go.

Whoa! Not sure I want to mess with that. SCARY!

Indeed, it looks horribly scary. However, I *did* manage to achieve the setting that I wanted reinstated - which was to stop websites from messing with my context menu for right clicks. Though it's rather disturbing that the Firefox upgrade overrode my previous preferences in the first place. I think they should have been preserved through the upgrade.

Ideally you need to find someone who has already successfully done the one thing that you are trying to do and has then written out what the magic words for it are.

If this is the only account you're having problems with I expect the problem may lie with the site's cookie writing rather than Firefox - they may have changed something on the site to make the cookies expire or their cookies aren't being written properly and the new version of Firefox can't handle it.

They're supposed to expire after two weeks but I'm apparently not the only one having problems so it looks like they do need to sort it out.
