Someone on Kensington and Chelsea Freecycle is giving away a 42" plasma TV. The second one in the last few days.

Digital and high-def are REALLY killing the second-hand TV market!

Good lord. I bet they got some replies chasing that offer.

... the most exciting thing to turn up in my local Freecycle is bamboo canes and the occasional sewing machine. It's mostly just household junk that would normally go to a charity shop.

I was a bit surprised too, but Kensington is a fairly wealthy area, and the ad specifically mentioned there is no HDMI socket so it must be low-resolution, and the combination of low-res, big, and heavy is a bit of a killer for something like that.

I've seen that ad for the Martian thing but haven't seen the show - looks interesting though.

True. It must be ancient if it's a telly that size but no HDMI input. That will have been an expensive piece of kit back in the day.

We've got an ancient Hitachi 42" plasma that is both SD and lacking HDMI. It's languishing in my games library upstairs, but we don't use it. From memory, it was £3,000 when we bought it. It was replaced some years back by "the greatest gadget of the 21st century"*, which is vastly superior.

I've got a n elderly 42" LCD set - even that weighs about 24kg - my niece (who is about 5ft tall) recently got a 42" LED set, it was light enough she could carry it by herself.
