I wanted to upload most of the Hugo-nominated fiction to my Nook - and suddenly there was insufficient memory left. Fortunately it also has an 8gb card. Not surprisingly, the book that probably broke the camel's back was the Wheel of Time compilation, weighing in at nearly 28K pages...

later - not 28k pages, 28 megabytes!

I wonder how many voters felt obliged to read the whole thing before they could decide who they would vote for...

Yeah, i've always half thought about reading the Wheel of Time, but figured... it's a major investment of life.

My best friend is a huge fan and she's been going on at me for ages to read it. So I finally gave in and read the first book. And yes, it's very derivative of Lord of the Rings, but hey, I loved Lord of the Rings. I actually thought it was pretty good. I wasn't blown away by it, in the way I was blown away by Game of Thrones or Book of the First Law (Joe Abercrombie), but so far it seems like one of the better epic fantasy series.

But yeah, there are so many books - and so many other books that I could be reading instead.

I dipped into it a bit on my PC before voting, but decided life was probably too short to read the whole thing. On the other hand I might feel differently some time, so it won't hurt to have it on the Nook.

I'm keeping it in case I'm in hospital or something and need a LONG read. Otherwise I doubt it'll happen.

28K pages? It reckons 10520 pages on my Nook. I hope I got it all. :-)

And I just checked. The last part on my Nook is A Memory of Light which Wikipedia reckons was the last of the series.

The Wikipedia article gives page counts:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wheel_of_Time

What amuses me is that the audio book of the full series apparently lasts 19 days 5 hours 25 minutes. Wagner's Ring cycle only takes 14-16 hours.

Yes, the Nook says 10520. Either that was the count on Calibre, or I somehow got it wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

I'm not going to ask which definition of special you're using...

Mystery solved - it's just under 28 megabytes! Somehow that became nearly 28k pages in my brain...

Although Calibre does say 25788 pages for me.
