[livejournal.com profile] vicarage pointed out to me that on Sunday Crossrail will be running tours of some bits of Brunel's railway (the remains of an engine shed's floor, track beds, etc.) that have been dug up while excavating the old shunting yards at Westbourne Park, just down the road from me, as part of the project. Ought to be interesting, I hope, and it's so close that it's definitely worth taking a look. You have to book tickets in advance, I've booked for 1 PM.

Details of it here:

Are you going ?

I haven't quite got the interest to make it worth me making the trip into London for it. (Particularly on short notice since I've just seen this post). Burt I'd love to see photos and read about what they have found.

I should be heading over there in about an hour, I'm booked for the 1PM tour. The sites I linked to have some photos - I'll be taking my own, but I doubt I'll add anything new.

It's too late to book a ticket now anyway - I doubt their PR office is open on Sunday.

I've been a bit busy this evening, I'll probably post the photos tomorrow. It was quite interesting, mostly it was just the bricks that remain but it was a chance to see some of the site from ground level, the archaeologist who showed us around was very good at explaining things, and it was a lovely afternoon.

Apparently they'll be doing something like this at Liverpool Street station next year, I think they said February. But it ought to be for several days, not just one day.
