I think I mentioned that I was worried that birds wouldn't be able to find the feeder hanging from my kitchen window since the tree that overhung it was cut down.

Fortunately this turns out not to be the case. I've seen occasional blue tits feeding since then, and the level of food has been dropping slowly. And today they have been at it more or less non-stop, at one point there were three or four jockeying for position. I'm going to need to fill it in a day or two.

The only problem is that pigeons are landing on the window sill, attracted by occasional seeds the tits drop. Not sure what I can do about that, other than fitting some plastic spikes or something.

Stick a recipe for pigeon pie prominently onto the window?

It's an old trick but it might just work...

I have plant pots underneath the bird feeder to catch the dropped seed. Helps prevent the rats coming in for it.

I'm 2 floors up so hopefully no rats on the windowsill (apart from the winged ones) - since the front door of the house is directly underneath flower pots are probably not a good idea, they might end up falling on someone's head!
